Experience

The Director of DSS, Trey Bortel, has 15 years of experience working with developmental disabilities. Trey received his degree in Psychology from Bowling Green State University in 1996. Since then he has held the titles of Direct Support, Home Supervisor, Residential Manager, Quality Assurance Manager, Recreation Supervisor, and Residential Services Coordinator. As the Director of Dignified Support Services, he works directly with the individuals that he services in a direct support capacity. At DSS, we believe in role-modeling and the direct support position is the most important position to this agency.

Trey has worked with over 150 clients who represented all areas of the Developmental Disabilities spectrum. He has also supervised and personally trained over 100 staff on how to work directly with developmental disabilities and severe challenging behavior.

Be sure to check out the Training section for a look at Dignified Support Systems, a seminar on behavior management strategies. Created by Trey, it is the most comprehensive and articulate behavior training in the area. A large portion of the seminar is on de-escalation, effective communication and teaching how to avoid needing physical intervention techniques.
